How to use Onyx Jars?
Getting started with onyx jars is easy and straightforward. But if you follow the following simple steps, you can achieve the best possible results. This instruction will make you a candle pro.
Important safety note
- Never leave a burning candle unattended
- Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
- Ensure there are no flamable objects around the candle
Preparation
Before lighting the candle, ensure that the wick is trimmed to approximately ¼ inch/0.5 cm to promote even burning and prevent sooting.
Place the onyx jar on a stable surface, away from drafts or flammable materials. Our candles are well-polished and thick enough to be placed on any surface without risk of damage.
Lighting the candle
Using our signature reusable electric lighter or your own tools, carefully light the candle wick.
Allow the wax to melt evenly across the jar's surface, especially during the initial lighting, to avoid tunneling and ensure even burning in the future, thereby extending the life of your candle.
Creating ambiance
As the candle burns, the transparent onyx jar comes to life, illuminating unique textures and colors inside. This creates a captivating atmosphere, perfect for relaxation, meditation, or setting the mood for any occasion.
Extinguishing the candle
Ensure that the candle is properly extinguished after use. You can use our high-quality candle extinguishing accessories or carefully cover the jar with a lid.
If extinguishing the candle using the latter method, black residue may form on the lid. Don't worry, you can easily remove it with a dry cloth or rinse it under water.
Maintenance
After the candle was lit and burned for the first time it gets even easier. Here're some more tips, to get the most out of the candle.
Trimming the wick
Remember to trim the wick before each use, or immediately after extinguishing it if using scissors. You can use our candle wick trimmer for this purpose.
Ensure that the wick is trimmed to approximately ¼ inch/0.5 cm to promote even burning and prevent sooting.
Straightening the wick
If for any reason the wick starts to lean or slant during burning, use our flat candle snuffer. Before snuffing, fully tilt the wick into the wax. After the wick is extinguished, reposition it to a straight position in the center of the candle. Allow the wax to solidify. Don't forget to trim wick to the desired length before the next lighting.
We also recommend periodically checking the wick's straightness and adjusting it for better quality and longer candle burning.
Cleaning the jar before refill
When the candle burns out, clean the jar of wax residue before using a new candle. Pour hot water into the jar, wait for the wax to melt, then pour out the water. If there is still wax on the jar walls, repeat the process. Then dry thoroughly with a paper towel. The jar is ready for reuse!
If there is almost no wax left from the previous candle on the jar walls, and the new candle easily fits inside, cleaning the jar is not necessary. Just remember to remove the metal wick holder tip from the previous candle if it was present.
If there’s only a small amount of wax left on the jar’s walls, hot water will be enough to clean it. If there’s more wax, it’s best to remove the excess with a spoon first. You can pour some hot water into the jar to soften the wax, making it easier to remove. Use the spoon to scoop out the majority of the wax and dispose of it in the trash.
The wax we use is natural, which means it’s a plant-based fat. So, if you feel a slight greasy residue on the jar after rinsing it with water, we recommend using dish soap and hot water to clean it thoroughly.
